If you’re on a diet, there’s nothing more taunting than the tantalising smells and sight of an all-inclusive buffet, or local cuisine when you’re on vacation. Whether you’re traveling to Europe, where you must have an EHIC Card, or to another part of the world, there are so many different dishes that you may want to try. However, there are ways to maintain your diet whilst on vacation, but still indulge in the fantastic cuisines around the world.

Diet Tips while on Vacation

Choose Foods Rich In Protein

No matter where you’re traveling in the world, more often than not you will find a delicious, freshly caught fish dish in any restaurant, or hotel. Fish is not only delicious to eat, it is also rich in excellent fats, such as Omega 3, and protein. Omega 3 is important for both your body and brain, and fish also tends to be a very low calorie brain food – depending on what you have with it. Not only is it delicious, you’ll also be able to maintain your diet with most fish dishes.

Avoid Fatty Desserts – Stick To Fruit

At an all-inclusive holiday, there’s a strong likelihood that you will be tempted by the many, great looking desserts that are featured at the buffet restaurants. Although these might look good, more often than not they don’t always taste too great and have been sitting on the side for too long. If you want a dessert, have a look at the fruit section. Whether you’re in Europe, the Caribbean or Asia, there are plenty of different native fruits so you will be spoilt for choice. On top of this, the fruit selection usually tastes a whole lot better than any pre-made buffet dessert, and you won’t be cheating on your diet. Fruit such as apples are full of fibre, and blueberries are classed as a superfood, so for a delicious dessert, stick to fruit.

Drink Water

Although this might seem obvious, when it comes to all-inclusive resorts in particular, it can be all too easy to move towards sugary soft drinks and alcohol. Although it’s okay for you to enjoy yourself (you are on vacation after all), make sure that you still continue to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Not only will this help you rehydrate, and is vital for your body, particularly when you’re in a hot country, you’ll also feel a lot better. Your skin will look and feel healthier, and you also won’t be compromising on your diet if you stick to water, or at the very least counteract every sugary drink you have with water.

Vacation Diet Tips

Be Careful Of Sauces

When you’re on holiday, particularly in countries such as Italy or Peru, a lot of the food that you will end up being presented with have the option of sauce. Although these sauces are delicious, they can be packed full of calories, so if you can, try and steer clear of having a dish covered in a rich, heavy, sauce. This will help you to maintain your diet, and it will also help you to feel less heavy and tired after a big meal.
