How Leanne keeps happy and healthy over winter

It is not uncommon to feel ” flat”  over the colder months, with less exposure to sunlight to boost up those happy hormones.

These are some of the things I do to help stay happy and healthy over winter.

When I’m in a cooking mood, I like to make a few meals and put them in containers in the deep freeze. I get out the crock pot and make a meat stew and put a whole chicken in a saucepan with soup mix and vegies. These are great for those nights when you are too tired to cook, but need a nourishing hearty and satisfying meal.

To me, there is nothing quite as relaxing as a walk on the beach. I love to breathe in the salt air as I walk along, picking up shells to add to my already plentiful collection. Once I have warmed up a bit I will expose my arms to the sunlight to help build up my Vitamin D levels. Remember not to wash your body with soap straight away though, as the Vitamin D you made, will be “washed away”.

I regularly have a look at the supplements I am taking, to make sure I am taking appropriate nutrients for the current season. A probiotic is an absolute must, as 70% of your immune system is situated in your intestinal wall. I boost myself up with zinc and selenium and if I am feeling flat or have a low mood, will start taking 5-HTP. Astraforte and System Well are my two favourite immune building products and if my immunity is low, a course of either one does the trick for me. I always take essential fatty acids and vary these all the time. I am currently taking the Udos 3.6.9 blend, which is a unique combination of plant based sources. If you have bumpy upper arms (those little pimply spots that make your skin rough) starting an essential fatty acid supplement now, should sort this out for next summer.

Erlicheer is one of my favourites

I love the smell of spring flowers

I plant some spring seeds and bulbs. How absolutely rewarding it is, to watch your seeds germinate and start to grow. To see your spring bulbs come to life, after being dormant all year, hoping they have multiplied so their flowers will be plentiful. My favorites’ are old fashioned freesias (not those hybrid ones) and erlicheer. Mmmm The True smell of spring!

No matter how busy I am, I always make time for my girlfriends. I find it so therapeutic to have a catch up, away from it all, discussing this and that, and getting a 2nd opinion on any issues that may be circling around in my overly active brain. I trust their honest opinion, as a person who knows me well. They say it as it is, knowing how blunt to make it. Its nice to be able to be yourself, have a few laughs and be with people who you care about and who care about you.

What about you?  What things do it for you?
