We are a HUGE fan of Malcolm Harkers herbal products and especially the Harker Herbals Respiratory Products – Deep Lung Support (was called Emphysemol), Chest Clear (was called Lung Elixir), Expectorant Support (was called Linctus Expectus) and Ear Nose & Throat Tonic (was called Eutherol)

Even myself as a naturopath & herbalist, I sometimes get confused as to which of the Harker Herbals respiratory products to choose, so here is an explanation of each and which product to use for what.

Deep Lung Support

Harker Herbals Respiratory Products

Deep Lung Support (Emphysemol) For bronchial and lower respiratory support. A powerful herbal respiratory tonic for bronchial support and to help in the removal of mucus, especially for the lower lungs.  Supports healthy breathing and airways and can soothe a deep cough which is trying to rid the body of clear, grey, green or yellow phlegm

The blurb on the back of the bottle states that it Provides support for deep lung congestion, healthy breathing and airways and the effective removal of mucus. An antiseptic herbal tonic to support a healthy bronchial and lower respiratory tract for the whole family.

 

 

Chest Clear

Chest Clear (Lung Elixir) Supports healthy breathing and upper lungs. With peppermint, Pine and Eucalyptus to help support healthy breathing and airways, especially for the upper lungs, moderate tightness in the chest and a persistent dry cough.  Gentle helps to loosen mucous and phlegm in the upper lungs.

The blurb of the back of the bottle states A natural anti-congestive elixir for the whole family. May support clearing and soothing of the airways, breathing and help loosen and dissolve mucus and phlegm from the lungs.

 

 

Expectorant Support

Expectorant Support (Linctus Expectus) Supports stubborn mucous removal from the lungs.  A combination of herbs and pure essential oils that work together to loosen and help remove mucus from deep in the lower lungs.  useful for that deep persistent cough trying to remove stubborn mucus that just wont budge.

The blurb of the back of the bottle states A traditional herbal tonic that may help remove stubborn mucus and phlegm from the lungs, soothe the throat and support lower respiratory health.  Can be used buy the whole family and as an extra aid along with Chest Clear and Deep Lung Support.

 

 

Ear Nose & Throat Tonic (Eutherol) Supports the Upper respiratory tract, such as sore throats, tender ears, blocked sinuses and heavy heads.  A good one to use at the first sign of these

symptoms, to ward off a head cold.  This 100% natural herbal tonic provides exceptional and soothing support for the upper respiratory tract and helps protect against winter ills and chills.

The blurb of the back of the bottle states May support a healthy immune response for the ears, nose and throat and soothe the supper respiratory tract.  Pleasant tasting, soothing relief and protection for the whole family.

Kerry told us – This is my favourite product for Upper Respiratory Tract Infections. I always use this product for my children when there are any signs of a sore throat, blocked ears or blocked sinuses. I find it particularly useful for Croup. – Kerry

 

Harker Herbals give us this recipe for their
Harker Hot Toddy, using Ear Nose & Throat Tonic

Ingredients:

A Hot Toddy for A Stuffy Head

Juice of one large lemon
A one inch knob of ginger, peeled and grated
1 tsp of quality NZ Manuka Honey
10ml of Harker Herbals Ear, Nose & Throat Tonic
1 cup of boiling water

Optional for Super Charged Hot Toddy

1-2 cloves finely chopped or grated garlic
1/4 tsp ground turmeric or a tsp of grated fresh turmeric
A sprinkling of cayenne powder

How to make:

Mix your chosen ingredients together except for the tonic and then add the boiling water.  Stir, wait a few minutes and then add the Ear, Nose & Throat tonic. Sip slowly while still hot for a soothing hot toddy when feeling miserable with a head cold.
